Little Black Dress

The area of Bank, Cannon Street, and St Paul’s in London is a well known for its historical architecture and morning rush hour swarm of workings commuting to their offices during the weekdays. However, on the weekends it’s largely empty, at least empty for central London (because I consider London crowded in this day and age). This is why I think this location is perfect if you want the retro London backdrop in your photos with minimal pedestrian activity. Walking through you’ll see stark contrasts between buildings that have stood for hundreds of years next to modern developments made seemingly of finely cut glass and metal.

The motive for this shoot was to see how film (Portra 800) would deal with very dark shadows and blacks. I knew by now that film exposes highlights wonderfully, but what if the model wore a jet black dress? I thought these images looked great considering I didn’t expose the film as well as I could have.
